Finally! After a couple months of work, KAMS 0.2.0 is available. It probably has all kinds of bugs, so be sure to report any issues you run into.

The 0.2.0 release features basic combat, lots of new admin commands, bug fixes, and much more.

Download

You can head on over here to download it.

Notable New Things

  • Ruby 1.9.1 compatibility
  • Simple combat
  • Respawning GameObjects
  • GameObjects which expire
  • Death
  • Tastes, smells, textures, sounds
  • Portals
  • Gaits
  • Emote suffixes
  • Future event syntax
  • Setup script
  • Several new adminsrative commands
  • Administrative help files
  • Emotes can be defined via a little DSL
  • Logging is much better
  • Inventory is a subclass of Gary
  • Mobiles and Players have new super class LivingObject

Install

If you are interested in checking it out, here are the steps to follow:

  • Install Ruby. If you have to use Windows, I recommend the One-Click Installer
  • Install EventMachine using RubyGems This just typically means typing "gem install eventmachine"
  • Download KAMS and untar/unzip it somewhere
  • Run ruby util/setup.rb and use the first option to initialize the storage. If you are using the One-Click installer, you can just double-click the file
  • Run ruby server.rb. Again, if you are using the One-Click installer, just double-click it. If you see "Server up and running" then you are set
  • Connect to the address and port you set
  • Create a new character with the name you set before
  • Now you should be ready to make your own little world

Any issues can be discussed here or on the "Admin and Development Help" board. Bugs should be reported on the "Bugs and Errors" board.
