I imagine it wouldn't be that difficult to implement and it would make life easier if you could just press up- and down arrow to step through your command history.

Usually that's something that's done on the client side.

To do it on the server would require changing the telnet mode that's used, and I think most clients don't support that.

Yeah, that'd have to be done client side. I know of a few clients that do this already (zMUD, gMUD {I think}, and ALclient to name a few).

It's been 10 years but I might have put that in the client when I experimented with LPmud and Pike. Too bad my current client doesn't seem to have that.
